Welcome to the AF Death Train Wiki Updated for January 2026

Unit Optimization Guide

Maximize your defense efficiency with optimal unit placement, upgrade priorities, and resource management.

Unit Placement Optimization

Front Car Priority

Place units on the front cars of the train for maximum range and firing time. Units here engage enemies earlier and more frequently.

Strategic Positioning

Position AoE units where they have clear line of sight to the center of the track to maximize splash damage effectiveness.

Distraction Structures

Place non-essential structures at the edge of train cars to bait zombie attacks away from your main damage-dealers.

Upgrade Priorities

Upgrade Before Expand

Always prioritize upgrading existing units to their maximum level before placing new, weaker ones. Upgraded units provide better value.

Gem First

Upgrade the Gem early to unlock advanced unit slots. This is often more valuable than buying multiple weak units.

AoE Priority

Prioritize upgrading AoE units for late-game survival. Single-target units become ineffective in later waves.

Resource Optimization

Gold Farming

Use your shovel in early game to personally farm gold. Transition to full automation as you progress.

Crate vs. Upgrade

Compare the high-risk/high-reward 150g Crates against guaranteed Gem upgrades. Early game, focus on guaranteed progression.

Economy Management

Balance between buying new units, upgrading existing ones, and upgrading the Gem. Plan your economy for long-term success.

DPS Optimization

  • Calculate DPS/ROI before purchasing units
  • Focus on units with high damage per gold spent
  • Prioritize AoE units for late-game DPS
  • Maximize unit slots with upgraded units
  • Use calculators to optimize your build
